“TV Line” — How do you shake things up when your central couple is married and settled in? Send them to the ’50s!

This Thursday, Bones reaches it milestone 200th episode (Fox, 8/7c) with an installment that reimagines Booth and Brennan in a Hitchcockian movie scenario. And as the longtime lovers take on their new personas, “a little cat-and-mouse [game]” is ignited, David Boreanaz, who also helmed the hour, previews.

Below, executive producers Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan, as well as stars Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel, discuss the couple’s new beginning in the unique outing, the special treats in store and the cost — physical and monetary — of pulling off such a feat.

TVLINE | How did you come up with the concept for the 200th episode?
HART HANSON | I want to say one thing before you start. If I was running the show, we would never have done this 200th episode. It’s Stephen’s.

TVLINE | Is that a good thing or bad thing?
HANSON | It’s an excellent thing.
STEPHEN NATHAN | It really is examining Booth and Brennan and the beginnings of their relationship in another situation. Everything is the same. It’s sort of an origin story. It is the start of the science of forensic anthropology in a bizarre and interesting way. It is seeing them meet the first time again and seeing that relationship begin again.

TVLINE | How different is Booth and Brennan’s relationship in this episode?
EMILY DESCHANEL | She plays an LAPD officer who is after a jewel thief. She’s following this jewel thief who is Seeley Booth. She follows him to a house and they discover a dead body. Now everyone’s convinced that Booth has killed this woman and Brennan’s not so sure. So they pair up together to prove his innocence and prove that she is a great [officer] and that she should be promoted to detective.
DAVID BOREANAZ | It’s pretty much the same. There’s no real big difference except that I’m a jewel thief and she’s a detective. We really went for the moments to stay alive, which we’ve done every episode with this show… I always go back to the two of us working with Ivana Chubbuck, who’s an amazing acting coach, and she helped us so much with these characters. We brought these great, raw, new, exciting characters to life with the help of her. Obviously, we executed it and gave it to the writers. They were into it. There’s a lot of moments there that I look back on and they were big moments.
HANSON | It’s the fourth time we’ve seen them meet for the first time over 200 episodes.
NATHAN | That’s right. Their jobs might be different, but their characters are the same to a large extent. Some [other characters] I can’t really talk about because I’ll give away the ending. And we did want this to be not just doing a sketch like Saturday Night Live. It’s a mystery. We’re watching basically a Hitchcock mystery.
HANSON | With some gifts for the audience.

TVLINE | Like nods back?
NATHAN | Oh, yeah. There’s a lot of little things in there for the audience to see, characters you go, “Oh, my God! Who’s that?!”
HANSON | The crazies who are so loyal that they notice every single line. Wonderful crazies.

TVLINE | Is this an opportunity to go back to the early seasons and that more playful dynamic with Booth and Brennan since they’re not together?
DESCHANEL | A little bit, yes. But it’s a different dynamic because it’s a 1950s-style, movie-type thing. It’s a different style of acting. It’s a different dynamic slightly. But it’s similar to the original dynamic between Booth and Brennan.

TVLINE | How exciting or gratifying was it for you to do the romantic meeting again?
BOREANAZ | It’s fun. It’s a lot of time. It’s a lot of time in hair. That hair gel, I tell you, it was slick. [Laughs] It’s quite an experience, shooting in that period. It was a long shoot. It should have been 16-17 days and we did it in 14 days, and it was a lot. It was four or five days over what we normally do on a regular show. It had a lot of challenges, but it’s going to be very entertaining.

TVLINE | Was there anybody you couldn’t get back for the episode that you really wanted?
NATHAN | Yes, everybody who’s not in it, we wanted them to be in it, too. Ideally, everyone should have been in it. We just had logistical problems, scheduling problems, and it wasn’t possible.
HANSON | Budget problems.
NATHAN | But there were people who it was painful not to put in the show.
HANSON | How much longer than the average show was it, Stephen, to shoot the episode?
NATHAN | Four or five days longer.
HANSON | So approximately 50 percent.
NATHAN | It was the equivalent of shooting a pilot in the middle of our season. It was a pilot. Because it was huge. We weren’t allowed to use our permanent sets. But that’s another thing, the viewers who are really loyal viewers will see that the locations that we’re using, they’ve seen before. They just look different. Everything just looks a little odd and a little off.

“TV Line” — Someone get Christine an “I’m The Big Sister” T-shirt!

Fox’s Bones has formally decided to write star Emily Deschanel’s real-life pregnancy into the series’ storyline, TVLine has learned.

“We are so happy for Emily,” showrunner Stephen Nathan says in an exclusive statement to TVLine. “As before, rather than try to hide this from a sophisticated audience, we are integrating her pregnancy into the show.

“Booth and Brennan, like most couples today, will continue to work, play and catch murderers — maybe they’re unique in this respect — as their family grows,” Nathan continues. “As with most new situations that have arisen in 10 years, we feel that this can only enhance the show. Although I’m sure there will be a vocal group of fans eager to attack me, I hope they will be pleasantly surprised by what we have in store.”

Word on the creative decision came days after the actress’ rep confirmed that she and husband David Hornsby are expecting Baby No. 2.

Deschanel’s son, Henry, was born in 2011; his birth coincided with the Season 7 arrival of Brennan and Booth’s daughter, Christine.

“E! Online” — Congratulations are in order for Emily Deschanel!

The Bones star’s rep tells E! News exclusively that she and her It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia hubby David Hornsby are expecting their second child together. Their new little bundle of joy will join the couple’s son, Henry Hornsby, who was born in September 2011.

The duo’s exciting news also comes during a very special time for the TV actress, who will be celebrating the hit Fox series’ milestone 200th episode, airing on Dec. 11.

To congratulate Emily, co-star David Boreanaz and the rest of the cast on its amazing run, some of Fox’s biggest stars got together and made the most adorable video ever.

Of course, Emily’s sister and New Girl’s leading lady Zooey Deschanel, who has guest-starred on Bones as Brennan’s (Deschanel) cousin, made sure to get in on the fun as well and gave her well wishes in her usual quirky charm.

Don’t worry, when it comes to juggling parenthood with work, Emily seems to have a good system in place.

“I have a great nanny who is there with me all day, every day. [Henry] will come to set and hang out just off camera,” she once told Mom.Me.

“I can’t say he’s been silent the whole time, but I have a wonderful situation where I get to see my baby throughout the day, and I can’t imagine leaving him home at this point. But I know so many friends who have regular jobs and can’t take their baby to work, so I feel incredibly, incredibly lucky.”

Don’t forget to catch the 200th episode of Bones on Fox on Dec. 11!

“People” — Longtime vegan Emily Deschanel had a “life-changing” experience when she visited a Farm Sanctuary animal shelter for the first time.

“I had already known that farm animals have feelings and intellect, but then to really see them up close and spend time with these animals was pretty incredible,” the actress, 38, tells PEOPLE. “I didn’t realize how individual chickens could be, and the people who work there know each sheep by name from far away. They’re individual creatures who have their own little souls and personalities and quirks.”

Deschanel has been involved with the organization – which operates three shelters in addition to working to pass legislation for the humane treatment of farm animals – for the past eight years.

“Ten billion animals a year are killed for food in the United States alone,” she notes. “It’s insane. I’ve done different things for different animals, from primates to dogs and cats, but I really like to focus on [farm animals] because the numbers are so high and people aren’t as aware.”

It’s a passion she hopes to pass along to her 3-year-old son Henry, whom she has brought to visit Farm Sanctuary’s rescue shelters.

“I want him to be comfortable with these animals and aware of them and why we choose not to eat them,” says the Bones star. “To have compassion for these animals is a great place to start, and that’s what I love for my son to gain from spending time with these animals.”

When Booth is framed for the murder of a rich socialite, he and Brennan team up to clear his name and find the true identity of the murderer in the all-new ‘The 200th in the 10th’ 200th episode of BONES airing Thursday, December 11th on FOX.
