As mentioned, the timeslot for “Bones” will be changing. When it premieres in the fall, it will be at its normal timeslot on Monday’s at 8:00 PM. However, in late fall after The World Series, Fox is moving “Bones” to Fridays at 8:00 PM. To check out the full schedule, click here.

No Bones about it: Booth and Brennan are on the move. New Girl‘s Nick and Jess, meanwhile, scored the most coveted timeslot in all of TV.

Fox on Monday announced its official schedule for the 2013-14 TV season, and herewith are the biggest headlines: After launching its ninth season in its regular Monday/8 pm timelsot, Bones will relocate to Fridays at 8 pm in late fall (after the World Series); a special episode of New Girl (in addition to one of Fox’s freshman comedies) will air after the network’s telecast of Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014; at midseason Glee will hand over its Thursday-at-9/8c timelost to the Greg Kinnear legal drama Rake (Glee will resume its fifth season in late spring and run through June); and M. Night Shyamalan’s event series Wayward Pines (starring Matt Dillon) will launch in 2014.

Elsewhere, a limited series reboot of 24 is set to launch next May, J.J. Abrams’ new post-apocalyptic cop drama Almost Human will assume Bones‘ Monday perch post-baseball, where it will lead into fellow rookie drama Sleepy Hollow (The Following will reclaim the 9/8c slot at midseason).

On tap for midseason, in addition to American Idol and The Following: New series Gang Related, Surviving Jack, Us & Them and Murder Police.

Fox has not yet decided the fate of The Cleveland Show.

Bones giveth, and Bones (quickly and cruelly) taketh away.

In Monday’s season finale of the long-running Fox drama, Brennan — buoyed in part by a certain Big Bad’s escalating reign of terror — overcame her aversion to marriage and popped the question to Booth. His answer? “Hell, yes!”

But in a heartbreaking twist, Pelant (who has an allergic reaction to even the whiff of happiness, particularly where B&B are concerned) threatened to whack five random strangers if Booth didn’t end the engagement. And adding insult to injury, Booth wasn’t allowed to tell Brennan why he was calling it off!

Cut to a bewildered and devastated Brennan, cue the closing credits.

In the following Q&A, Bones EP Stephen Nathan takes us inside the action-packed hour and teases what’s to come in Season 9 (hint: time jumps, deaths, rigged alarm clocks, possible break-ups and more!)

TVLINE | What you did to Booth and Brennan was just… not right.

[Laughs] It was so much fun to do!

TVLINE | Couldn’t Booth, you know, tell Brennan what was really going on somewhere outside of Pelant’s reach — like in the shower?
No. There’s too much at stake. It’s not just Brennan’s life but Christine’s, too. He has a daughter he has to think about. And Pelant is crazy. Booth doesn’t want to test those waters, not before they figure out how to get them. And I can promise that they will, and we already know how. Pelant will not live forever.

TVLINE | Will he live beyond the Season 9 premiere?
Yes. He won’t go quietly into the night.

TVLINE | Will the premiere pick up right where the finale left off?
There will be a bit of a time jump. It’s not going to be huge, but it’s going to be enough of a time jump that we can tell their relationship has been through something. It becomes an issue of trust between Booth and Brennan. It’s a very difficult emotional situation for them to be in. We have a lot to contend with heading into Season 9 with this tension and rift. It’s going to be a lot to surmount.

TVLINE | How serious will this obstacle be? Is it going to jeopardize the relationship?
The potential for that is definitely there. We don’t want to soft-pedal this. There’s a secret, and relationships don’t really thrive when one or both parties are withholding something. And I think that’s what we’re going to see. And we do have some episodes that we’re developing now that embrace that conflict.

TVLINE | How hard is Sweets going to take the unintended role he played in Pelant’s latest killing spree?

He definitely feels responsible for the death of those people, because Pelant was using Sweets’ work. So there’s fallout from that.

TVLINE | And Booth, I’m guessing, will be on the warpath.

Yes. When Season 9 opens up, we will see him quite obsessed with Pelant, quite obsessed with the fact that he wants this guy out of his life. Going through [normal] channels is not working.

TVLINE | Is it now safe to say Pelant messing with Booth and Brennan’s alarm clock last season was just a red herring? It hasn’t been revisited since.
That will play into what comes up next season. That is something we will revisit.

TVLINE | Even though it was a short-lived engagement, the question-popping scene was really sweet. Was there any discussion about having her get down on one knee?

We never wanted to do anything excessively traditional with Brennan. And it seemed to us that we had to put her in a situation where she could be spontaneous — something that we’ve seen evolve in her life over time. She’s always so rational that having her character evolve where she can spontaneously do something, she can rationalize it later as she did in the episode, but the reality is she couldn’t imagine living without Booth.

TVLINE | This totally sets things up for Booth to eventually turn the tables and do the proposing himself.
That crossed our minds. But we will have to see how it will unfold. We have our ideas on how this situation might resolve, but it might in no way fall into the current expectations of the fans.

Bones wraps up its current season tonight with an episode that’s going to show fans just how bad computer hacker madman Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds) can be. And Emily Deschanel couldn’t be prouder of the fact that eight seasons in, the show can still keep the audience on its toes. “I feel like new life has been breathed into the show,” she says of this season. “It doesn’t feel like we’re winding down, it feels like we’re revving up.”

To prepare for tonight’s episode, airing at 8 p.m. ET on Fox, Deschanel chatted with EW about what fans can expect.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Pelant is back tonight. He always hits a nerve with the Jeffersonian group, so how does everyone react to him being back?
DESCHANEL: I think it’s emotional for everybody. We’re essentially being targeted. He’s had his sights on all of us, and this time, it seems very targeted toward Booth, specifically. The victims — there may be multiple victims — have connections to the FBI, and Booth knows [the first] victim well. So it’s a big deal. It’s very disturbing to say the least.

How is Brennan feeling?
It’s of course terrifying for Brennan because here she is getting closer and closer to Booth, they have a child together — the idea of losing Booth has become a possibility. It just makes their relationship even closer, but certainly it feels very personal and terrifying and so it definitely effects Brennan deeply….Before, she only had herself, so she didn’t care. If she died, she died. She didn’t worry about losing somebody else because she wasn’t close enough to anyone. Now, it’s a big deal.

Pelant’s presence always brings up interesting moral questions for the characters. Is that the case this time around?
Definitely some moral questions come up, and life questions come up for Booth and Brennan. They have to make decisions within their natures….It has them questioning what their lives are like and the choices they’ve made and if they’re happy with that. So it might cause them to make some big decisions in their life, too.

…like marriage?
It’s definitely discussed. It’s definitely addressed. What the outcome is? I can’t really say. But it’s definitely addressed in this episode, and it certainly makes Brennan question her own beliefs and all of that. It’s a big — lots of things happen. It’s a big episode.

How do you feel about the prospects for the story if Bones and Booth are married or engaged one day, whenever that happens? From your perspective, does it feel like there’s a lot to mine there?
You know what? [The writers] always come up with new stories for whatever different status we have. I think it helps that we’re doing things out of order because it kept the show very interesting. We went from sexual tension to, oh, raising a child together. [laughs] So that’s a big deal, and it’s throwing these characters into different situations that are new to them. Now they’re figuring out how to raise a child from their two wildly different perspectives. I think if they got engaged or married it would bring some interesting new stories to the show, and it would just be a new opportunity for them to showcase their quirky, witty repartee.

Last, there’s a cliffhanger I assume. Tell me what you can.
The last minutes…it’s like the last few season finales where you really have to watch until the very late minute. I think there will be conflicting responses to the end of this episode. I think it really takes you on a roller coaster. And I think there will be happiness when certain things happen and sadness when other things happen.

EMILY Deschanel is a woman in demand.

One voice, on the telephone, is a writer asking about Monday’s tense season finale of her Fox show “Bones.”

Another voice, a few feet away, is Henry Hornsby. Henry is 18 months old. He’s hungry, or he’s wet, and he don’t care nothing about no stinking season finale.

Every few questions, then, Deschanel politely asks the voice on the phone for a repeat.

“What were we talking about again?” she says. “Sorry. Mommy brain.”

Deschanel may be the star of a hit TV show, a pretty good gig that Fox has just renewed for a ninth season next year. That doesn’t make the Mommy part any easier.

“It’s incredibly difficult to balance work and raising a child,” says the 36-year-old Deschanel. “It kills me every day. I struggle with it every day.

“It gets a little easier as he gets older . . . . But I still don’t think I balance it very well. Like right now, I really want to be with him, but I’m doing this.”

She then finds herself apologizing again, because that didn’t come out quite the way she meant it.

No one holds it against her, of course. It’s more like funny, because that’s just the sort of thing she might say on the TV show in her character as Temperance “Bones” Brennan.

Bones is brilliant, just not always sensitive to nuance.

What Bones will sense in Monday’s finale, Deschanel says, is danger. Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds), who Deschanel calls the most ominous villain in the show’s eight seasons, returns with malevolence on his mind.

Where before Pelant has targeted Bones, this time he’s after Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz), the father of Bones’ child.

When she senses a threat to Booth, she says, “Brennan will go farther than she’s ever gone before . . . to protect him.”

Yet at the same time, “It also makes her think about her life and their baby and their relationship.

“She never thought she’d have children. She never thought she’d get married. Everything has happened so fast, and this makes her stop to think about it.”

So even though she would do anything to protect him, she now asks if she wants to stay with him.

It’s an intense episode, says Deschanel, and she says that while some things will be resolved, aspects of the Pelant storyline will continue into next season.

In other words, it’s complicated. So is life.

“This job [acting], if you do it well, is extremely difficult,” says Deschanel. “Parenting, if done well, is even more difficult.”

1. Booth (David Boreanaz) is the target of Christopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds) this time.

While Pelant has previously focused his targeting on Brennan, the Season 8 finale will have the target shift a bit to Booth and the FBI. The fact that Booth shot Pelant when last the two men met may have something to do with the villain’s new focus.

2. Brennan’s worry for Booth will lead her to reevaluate her relationship priorities.

“[Pelant] really forces her to look at her life and herself and her relationship and why she feels certain ways about certain things and makes her question some of her core beliefs,” Deschanel said. “It’s a very pivotal time for her.”

3. The return of Pelant may bring about some forward movement in the Booth-Brennan relationship.

Over the past season, not much has changed between Booth and Brennan. They’re living together and they have a baby, but we’re still waiting to see if this will lead to marriage or something else. The Season 8 finale — and the return of Christopher Pelant — may change that. “She realizes that, you know, Pelant could get him. Booth is in danger,” Deschanel explained. “Feeling Booth’s mortality and the possibility of him being in danger, and the concept of even living without him, kind of brings things to a forefront with Brennan.”

4. We can expect multiple murder victims.

It starts with just one FBI agent, but it sounds like Pelant isn’t going to stop there. Instead, several of Booth’s colleagues could be doomed before the episode ends.

5. How far will Brennan go to protect a loved one?

Dr. Brennan just likes her intern, Arastoo Vaziri, but she was willing to stick a hypodermic needle (allegedly filled with a deadly disease) into a criminal to save his life. So what would she do when someone she loves — like Booth — is in danger? “Brennan is willing to go farther than she’s ever gone to protect somebody that she loves,” Emily Deschanel said. “I think there’s really no bounds to her protecting.”

The “Bones” Season 8 finale, “The Secret in the Siege,” airs on Monday, April 29 at 8pm on FOX.

Since Booth is furiously trying to get into the locked-down Jeffersonian, conventional wisdom might point to Brennan being the afflicted.
